The Lower Mustang trek follows the ancient salt-trading route through the Kali Gandaki Gorge — the world's deepest gorge at over 5,000m (deeper than the Grand Canyon). The arid landscape, Tibetan Buddhist culture, and the sacred temple of Muktinath (3,800m) make this one of Nepal's most dramatic and spiritually significant treks.
Arrive TIA. Hotel. Welcome dinner.
Passupatinath, Boudhanath, Patan.
Fly or drive to Pokhara.
Drive through Beni to Tatopani (6–7 hours). Arrive and soak in the famous natural hot springs.
Trek north up the Kali Gandaki valley (5–6 hours). The valley narrows spectacularly with Dhaulagiri (8,167m) and Annapurna I (8,091m) on either side.
Trek 5 hours through the increasingly arid Kali Gandaki. Pass Lete and Kobang villages. Reach Tukuche — a historic trading town. Visit the Tukuche distillery, famous for apple brandy.
Pass through Marpha — the cleanest village in Nepal, famous for apple products. Continue to Jomsom, the administrative capital of Mustang district.
Morning jeep or walk to Kagbeni (2,810m) — a medieval fortified village. Continue to Muktinath (3,800m) — a sacred temple complex revered by both Hindus and Buddhists.
Early morning puja at Muktinath Temple. Descend to Jomsom. Fly back to Pokhara (20-min scenic flight). Celebration dinner.
Fly or drive to Kathmandu. Free afternoon.
Breakfast. Airport transfer.
